WE APPROACH GOD

Prelude

Call to Worship/Peace

One: Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest,

All: Lord, teach us how to rest in you;

One: God said, ‘Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord’;

All: We bring our daily work and lay it at your feet.

One: Jesus said, ‘Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, and you will find rest for your souls.’

All: O Savior Christ, let us learn your lessons well.

One: Come, let us set aside our striving and worship the Lord of the Sabbath.

One: The Peace of Christ be with you

All: And also with you

Prayers of the People

Leader: We lift this praise to the Lord

All: Thanks be to God

Leader: We lift this prayer to the Lord

All: Lord, hear our prayer

with the Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power

and the glory forever.

Amen.

Affirmation of Faith: Heidelberg Catechism Q & A 103

One: What is God’s will for you in the fourth commandment?

All: First, that the gospel ministry and education for it to be maintained, and that, especially on the festive day of rest, I diligently attend the assembly of God’s people to learn what God’s Word teaches, to participate in the sacraments, to pray to God publicly, and to bring Christians offerings for the poor. Second, that every day of my life I rest from my evil ways, let the Lord work in me through his Spirit, and so begin in this life the eternal Sabbath.

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession

Jesus, forgive my sins. Forgive the sins that I remember, and the sins I have forgotten. Forgive my many failures in the face of temptation, and those times when I have been stubborn in the face of correction. Forgive the times I have made my achievements my own and failed to honor your works. Forgive the harsh judgments I have made of others, and the leniency I have shown myself. Forgive the lies I have told others, and the truths I have avoided. Forgive me the pain I have caused others and the indulgence I have shown myself. Jesus, have mercy on me and make me whole. Amen
