WE APPROACH GOD

Prelude

Advent Reading

Call to Worship/Peace

One: The voice of the Lord declares, “Comfort, O comfort my people”.

All: A voice cries out, “Prepare the way of the Lord!”

One: The earth will be transformed, God’s glory will be revealed.

All: We expect your arrival in fire and flame. Instead, we follow a star on a cold night.

One: You meet us in this place, as we remember your curious way.

All: As we wait, cleanse us. As we wait, mold us.

One: Our ears and eyes perceive no other god besides You, and so we worship this day.

All: We are all your people and we will wait for You.

One: The Peace of Christ be with you

           All: And also with you

*Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus (Sing Joyfully #187)

Prayers of the People

Leader: We lift this praise to the Lord

All: Thanks be to God

Leader: We lift this prayer to the Lord

All: Lord, hear our prayer

with the Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power

and the glory forever.

Amen.

Offering

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession

Merciful God, always with us, always coming, we confess that we do not know how to prepare for your Advent. We have forgotten how to hope in miracles; we have ignored the promise of your kingdom; we get distracted by all the busyness of this season. Forgive us, God. Grant us the simple wonder of the shepherds, the intelligent courage of the magi, and the patient faith of Mary and Joseph, that we may journey with them to Bethlehem and find the good news of a child born for us. Now, in the quiet of our hearts, we ask you to make us ready for his coming. Amen.
